:\ will he be moving out with you at some point?
We’re not sure yet. The industry he works in likes individuals who can acquire longevity in a position. Since graduation he’s switched jobs, on average, every two years. If he were to leave with me now, he would again be cutting his time at a job short. Then he would have to move again after I need to leave for residency, and who knows how many times after I’m moved to a duty station. Long story short, he would end up applying for jobs in the future and potential employers would wonder why he couldn’t hold on to a job for more than 2 years.
Therefore, we’ve discussed him staying in Pittsburgh for the duration of my time in medical school. That would get him six years at this job. And since I’ll be attending the military school, my last 2 years will be spent moving me around the country and world every few months, and he wouldn’t see me much anyway.
Right now the plan is for him to stay here until I get into a residency program and/or more stable duty station. At least if he has to move around a lot then, he can still show that he held down one job for a good length of time. Plus, he makes good money here and (for the most part) really enjoys his work. Financially and career-wise it just makes sense.
Despite the logic, we have discussed him moving in with me in MD if things get too awful being apart. But he did just sign a lease for apartment in Pittsburgh for another year. So he’ll be here for at least a year before we make any decisions along those lines.
