Honestly? Too sweet for me. It was a gift.
Don’t get me wrong! It’s a wonderful beer. No one does stout like Southern Tier, and I hardly ever buy it because it’s so expensive, so I certainly did not pass up this one when it was freely given. I enjoy a good chocolate stout and a good java stout, and I like vanilla porter, so I was excited to try this.
But it was a bit rich for my tastes. As with coffee, I don’t like too much distraction from the actual beer. If your idea of good coffee is a carmel mocha, you’d probably like this beer. If you’re more of a latte + a sugar person like me, this will probably be a bit too syrupy for you.
