Write a letter - Stop the Pennsylvania Asset Test for Food Stamps

privilegedwhitegirl:

Right now the PA state government is considering implementing an asset test to receive food stamps.

“Specifically, the Department of Public Welfare said that as of May 1, people under 60 with more than $2,000 in savings and other assets would no longer be eligible for food stamps. For people over 60, the limit would be $3,250.

Houses and retirement benefits would be exempt from being counted as assets. If a person owns a car, that vehicle also would also be exempt, but any additional vehicle worth more than $4,650 would be considered a countable asset.”

Asking people to spend almost all of their savings before being eligible for SNAP means it will be much more difficult for them to reach financial stability without government assistance. Discouraging someone to acquire wealth means that they will always live in poverty.

Please read the article  and sign the letter if you live in PA (or check to see if you live in one of the other 11 states that already has a similar asset test)

No longer in PA, but signal boosting.

Programs like SNAP kept dinner on the table for my hardworking family throughout most of my childhood. This is important.

Home sweet home, 6 more months and I’ll be able to start a life there

I have to say, I like Cleveland’s the best.

They left Pittsburgh out because it’s too pretty.
